What Do Bed Bugs Look Like?

Bedbugs are small, reddish-brown parasitic insects that bite the exposed skin of sleeping humans and animals to feed on their blood. Although bedbugs are not known to transmit disease, they can cause distress and irritation.

Some people have mild reactions to bedbug bites, while others experience more serious allergic reactions that can lead to swelling, itching and even anaphylactic shock.

Adult bedbugs are brown, flat and about 1/4 of an inch in size. Nymphs (young bedbugs) are smaller, transparent and may be difficult to see. You may also see small blood stains on sheets or mattresses from crushed bedbugs.

Common Signs of Bedbugs Infestation Include:

– Small, reddish-brown bugs in the cracks and crevices of beds, furniture, and walls

– Blood stains on sheets or mattresses from being bitten

– Itchy red bite marks on the skin

– A sweet, musty smell from the bugs

Where Do Bed Bugs Hide?

Bedbugs are experts at hiding and can be found in a variety of places, including:

– Cracks and crevices in beds, furniture, floors, mattress, walls or any other place where they can find shelter

– Luggage, clothes, bedding and other items that have been used by someone who was infested with bedbugs

– Secondhand furniture, beds and other items

How Do You Get Bed Bugs?

The most common way to get bedbugs is to travel and stay in a place where they are already present. Bedbugs can also be brought into your home on used furniture or clothing.

When Bed Bugs Bite

Bedbugs are most active at night and bite people while they are sleeping. The bites usually go unnoticed until after the bedbug has finished feeding and moved on to another victim. Bedbugs can bite any exposed area of skin, but they are especially fond of areas that are warm, such as the face, neck, hands and feet.

What Do Bed Bug Bites Look Like?

Bed bug bites appear as small, red bumps on the skin. They are often itchy and can be found in a line or cluster. Bed bug bites are not painful and do not usually require medical treatment.
